Candida, Psittacosis, Malaria, Virus Treatments
Viruses are pathogens and cannot be seen under an ordinary microscope.
Unlike bacteria, viruses do not have their own metabolism and an
antibiotic will have no effect on them. Since viral diseases cannot
directly be influenced with antibiotics, it is up to the body’s immune
system to deal with the virus by attacking it. There are certain
viral illnesses for which treatment with antibiotics is advisable, but
this is not to control the virus, but rather to treat the bacteria making
a secondary attack following the viral infection. Viral illnesses
are capable of causing severe damage to pigeons and so we must place emphasis
on prevention. Prevention must be confined to vaccination and strict
observance of optimal hygienic conditions. Some of the most important
illnesses in pigeons are viruses such as Paramyxovirus (PMV), Circovirus,
Adenovurus (Type I and Type II), Pigeon Pox and Pigeon Herpes. PMV
and Pigeon Pox may be mostly prevented with vaccination. The others
must run their course.
